Principles of Radiation Dose and Risk

Introduction

This module provides general information regarding the concept of 'radiation dose'.  We explain how that radiation can have ionizing effects, shown on a sub-atomic and molecular level, define stochastic and deterministic effects, determine the quantities (absorbed dose, radiation weighted dose, effective dose) and the units (Gy, Sv), as well as tissue weighting factors.
