CBCT Radiation Protection for Staff

Occupational dose is generally strictly regulated, using recommended dose limits which have been established by the International Council on Radiation Protection & Measurements (ICRP), shown in Table 1.

To reduce the dose to personnel as much as possible, there are a number of considerations (which apply to any X-ray modality):

- The operator should keep as much distance from the X-ray source as possible, and shield himself from scattered radiation behind leaded glass and/or a reinforced wall.

- If the former is not possible (e.g. the operator needs to stay in the same room and close to the device to assist patients which show anxiety), the operator should apply thyroid and body shielding.
